Barometer – Arsenal Week 24
The barometer compares the home and away results of this season so far and compare them against the same fixtures last season, keeping a running total of whether we have achieved more or less points for the same games. The barometer then assumes that we will achieve the same results as last season for the remaining games and predicts our final points tally and approximate finishing league position. The fixtures are obviously not identical, so we replace the relegated teams with the promoted teams according to their finishing order; Burnley for Leicester, Sheff Utd for Leeds and Luton for Southampton.
Week 24 Barometer
The embarrassing defeat to Arsenal has pushed this week’s barometer prediction back another point to 45 points, which based on last year’s table would see us finish around 11th. However, there is a massive opportunity to change the barometer’s momentum in the next eight fixtures, as we only secured 3 points in the same games last year. In fact, in the next four fixtures, which are winnable games even with our current form, we lost the corresponding fixtures last year – Forest (A), Brentford (H), Everton (A) and home to Burnley (Leicester) – so we will surely see the arrow move upwards in the coming weeks.
