Barometer – Post Sheff Utd Week 21

The barometer is back on 6foot2, which provides an alternative view of the season, comparing this season’s results directly with those of last season. Many of you with be familiar with the format, but for those that are not here is a brief explanation.

We compare the home and away results of this season so far and compare them against the same fixtures last season, keeping a running total of whether we have achieved more or less points for the same games. The barometer then assumes that we will achieve the same results as last season for the remaining games and predicts our final points tally and approximate finishing league position. The fixtures are obviously not identical, so we replace the relegated teams with the promoted teams according to their finishing order; Burnley for Leicester, Sheff Utd for Leeds and Luton for Southampton.

Week 21 Barometer

Nothing has changed after the Sheffield United game, as a 2-2 draw is exactly what we got against Leeds in the corresponding fixture last year. The current prediction does seem to be low, considering we are still sitting in an excellent sixth spot in the league. However, in the games we have left, our results in corresponding fixtures last year only yielded us 13 points; 3 wins, 4 draws and 10 defeats. This means there are plenty of chances to improve upon last year in the coming weeks.
