Publicly West Ham will hold out for the full £120m asking price for their captain Declan Rice this summer.
In 2018 Rice signed a new long-term contract with the Hammers until the summer of 2024 with an option for another year until June 2025.
There is concern about whether the extra year option is unilaterally enforceable,, so it is in both parties’ interest to agree on a sale this summer.
With most transfers, payments are usually paid in instalments over three, four or even five years.
The Hammers may be prepared to take a lower transfer fee if all the monies were paid upfront.
Arsenal often like to conclude their summer business early in the transfer window.
The Gunners aren’t know for being big payers in the transfer market but they would ned to find atleast £90m in cash up front to tempt the Hammers into an early conclusion to sell their prized asset. team
