Europa League Is Back But What’s Next?

The Europa League is back in action tonight, as the first legs of the play off round get underway. The eight games today are between teams that finished 3rd place in their Champions League group and teams that finished second place in the Europa League groups, including the runners up from our group – Freiburg.

Play Off Round

First legs tonight, with the return leg next Thursday 22nd March. West Ham are guaranteed to play one of the teams below from the play off round.

5:45 pm Kickoffs
Feyenoord (NED) v Roma (ITA)
Galatasaray (TUR) v Sparta Praha (CZE)
Shakhtar Donetsk (UKR) v Marseille (FRA)
Young Boys (SUI) v Sporting CP (POR)

8.00pm Kickoffs
Benfica (POR) v Toulouse (FRA)
Milan (ITA) v Rennes (FRA)
Lens (FRA) v Freiburg (GER)
Braga (POR) v Qarabag (AZE)

Round of 16

Following next week’s games, the draw for the Round of 16 will take place at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, next Friday 23 February.

West Ham are seeded after winning our group, along with Atalanta (ITA), Brighton, Leverkusen (GER), Liverpool, Rangers (SCO), Slavia Prague (CZE) and Villarreal (ESP). We would not have been able to play Brighton or Liverpool even if they were not seeded, as teams cannot be drawn together with other teams from the same country in the Round of 16.

As a seeded team we will play our first leg away and our second leg at home, with away goals not counting anymore.

1st Leg (Away) : Thursday 7th March
2nd Leg (Home) : Thursday 14th March

Quarter Finals & Beyond

If we are successful in the Round of 16, then we can look forward to the draw for the quarter finals on Friday 15th March. This draw is open, which means no seeding, and teams from the same country can be drawn together. UEFA also draw the Semi finals on this day.

The quarter final to final schedule is as follows:

QF 1st leg: Thursday 11th April
QF 2nd leg: Thursday 18th April

SF 1st Leg: Thursday 2nd May
SF 2nd Leg: Thursday 9th May

Final (Aviva Stadium, Dublin, Capacity: 51,700):
Wednesday 22nd May
