Fanzone scuppered by concerts and baseball preparation

The biggest challenge West Ham faced in hosting a fan zone viewing event for the Europa Conference League final at the London Stadium was the clash with the summer events schedule and not as much about the money. Work is already underway to turn the London Stadium into a music venue with Beyoncé playing on 29th and 20th May, that is closely followed by Burna Boy’ on 2nd and 3rd June.

It will take three to four days to break down the Burna Boy set so prepping for a 7th June fan zone would have bene tight.

Another major factor is the preparation for MLB baseball on the 24th June which usually takes three to four weeks.

Last time it took 23 days to transform the London Stadium into a ballpark using 110 expert workers brought in from around the world. Clay for the pitchers’ mound and 345 tonnes of soil for the infield are shipped in from the USA. 141,900 square feet of artificial turf are brought in from France and the perimeter fencing comes from Canada, creating the stage for the baseball teams London Series.

Alternatives including the London Marathon Community track were considered impractical and too small.
