Former Hammer Jesse Lingard has been left in transfer limbo with Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq now minded NOT to sign him following a trial at the club. Lingard has been training with the Saudi outfit but they are unable to complete his signing due to the foreign players’ rule in Saudi. Two of the club’s non-Saudi players would have to be released by January to accommodate the former Hammer in their squad – an unlikely scenario, coupled with the player’s financial demands, which are above what the club are prepared to offer him.
Lingard left for the Middle East after being banned and fined for a drink-driving offence, he apologised to a court for ‘putting the lives of others at risk’ after he admitted drink-driving in his £200,000 Lamborghini. The former Hammer was fined £57,000 – for being more than twice over the legal limit.
He trained with West Ham while waiting for his court appearance, with the Hammers paying his hotel and transport costs.
He failed to get match fit and was not offered a contract by David Moyes.
