Vic Watson & Dixie Dean FA Cup Semi-final 1933
In scoring tonight, record breaking goal scorer Erling Haaland not only set a new Premier League goal scoring record with his 35 goal in the league, passing both Andy Cole & Alan Shearers previous best of 34, Haarland also went past West Ham’s own record goal scorer in the overall goal scoring charts for a season.
Haarland now has 51 goals in total, Playing in 45 games. He scored 35 in 31 Premier League games, 12 Champions League goals from 8 games, 3 in the FA Cup in 3 games and 1 in two games in the Carabao Cup. West Ham’s Vic Watson scored 50 also in 44 games back in 1929/30 season. 42 in 40 games in the league and 8 in the FA Cup in only 4 games.
the record for total goals in one season is now in Haarlands site but he still has some work to achieve that.
In 1927/28 season, Dixie Dean of Everton, still only 21, scored 60 goals in just 39 games, so while Haarland is just 9 goals away, the fact Dean did it in far less games should not be ignored if Erling gets the 10 goals he needs to surpass the Everton & England goal scoring legend.
Vic Watson spent 15 seasons playing for West Ham after joining us from Cambridge City, scoring 326 goals in 505 games. His previous best season for us was 1928/29 where he managed 30 goals in total, 20 goals less then his best.
it’s unlikely that Watsons goal scoring record will ever be beaten but with this being Haarlands 1st season in the Premier League I’d expect him to set many more records.
