West Ham appear to be edging towards their first proper summer signing with reports suggesting Édson Álvarez will fly to London within the next 24 hours to undergo a medical.
Fabrizio Romano posted on X formally known at Twitter said “Édson Álvarez to West Ham, here we go! Verbal agreement with Ajax for total package around £34/35m fee. Álvarez will fly to London in the next 24 hours in order to undergo medical tests and sign contracts. Personal terms agreed as revealed on Saturday.”
Reports suggest the 25- year-old Mexican has agreed a five-year contract worth up to £148,000 per week.
Over the weekend senior club sources confirmed significant bid had been tabled to Ajax for Álvarez in excess of the £25m quoted by multiple reports.
Romano claims of £34/35m probably means an offer of €40 million which converts to £34.48m.
Whether West Ham will continue to pursue James Ward Prowse and/or Youssouf Forfana after this signing is debatable with other positions a bigger priority
