Maxwel Cornet could make a start this afternoon at the London Stadium as David Moyes has admitted he can play a number of different roles, including up front as a centre forward.

Moyes told reporters “Maxwel Cornet, I feel can probably play if we want to as a centre forward as much as he could off the left/right.

Maxi, I have to say. has a bit of a niggle, but he has been training really well and we want to try to get him back as he has been out for the best part of five months. Competition for places is always healthy and hopefully, it pushes the players on to perform better”

On his team selection generally, Moyes added: “The players can give you a headache and it’s always worse when they aren’t playing well, because then you have to make changes. If they are playing well it isn’t a problem and you can put them back in and say ‘go again’.

Despite the warning that Emerson was sick and Aguerd was feeling niggling hip both were seen in full training on Saturday morning indicating they would be OK after all.

There was no sign of Gianluca Scamacca who Moyes says has a sore knee but Michail Antonio and Vladimir Coufal were both seen in training indicating they are both fit again.

Pablo Fornals has been featured on the official website this morning ahead of the Southampton game maybe hinting he has a part to play in the important six-pointer.
