West Ham will step up pursuit of Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana sources close to the club have confirmed.
The Monaco No 19 is a defensive midfielder and clearly very highly regarded by several of Europe’s top clubs but at this stage the Hammers are yet to move although they have discussed his position with those close to him. He joined Monaco in 2020 and made 111 appearances with his contract with the club running out next June although the French outfit hold a one-year option on him.
He has played for the French national team on 10 occasions.
Fofana was involved in his club’s pre-season game against Arsenal last night at the Emirates scoring Monoco’s only goal in the Emirates cup.
West Ham are likely to face fierce competition from three other clubs for the 24-year-old. Atletico Madrid, Seville and Bayer Leverkusen are all desperately keen to sign the player, but it is though the 6ft 1 in midfielder is enthusiastic to play in the Premier League an that could give the Hammers the edge.
