West Ham is set to appoint a director of football this summer as Hammers board regain complete control over transfers in the future.

The new Director of Football will report to the board & not the manager, where that leaves the manager David Moyes & Head of Recruitment Rob Newman remains to be seen.

The new Director of Football does not affect Mark Noble’s role as Sporting Director; his role will be different having been previously described as working closely in support of the manager, as well as working with the Board of Directors, providing input, advice, & assistance across all aspects of the football operation. This will include Academy development, player recruitment & player & staff well-being – with a particular focus on ensuring players both progressing through the ranks & new to the Club are nurtured in the West Ham football philosophy and values.

While no names have been mentioned, there was a report in German BILD early this week, according to a translation by Sport Witness

The claIm has already made contact with St Louis sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel and ‘officially enquired’ about him moving to the London Stadium.

Pfannenstiel has impressed with St. Louis in MLS, leading them to second in the Western Conference in their first season.
He’s very much the brains behind the operation but claims to be happy where he is at the moment.
