A statement from the Policlinico Gemelli hospital in Rome, Italy, quoted by Gazzetta Dello Sport has confirmed that Gianluca Scamacca was successfully operated on in the Italian capital following a tear in his meniscus on his right knee.
The statement added that the operation only lasted a few minutes, incorporating an arthroscopy of the knee, which highlighted the tear, with Scamacca now “progressing satisfactorily” post-operation and facing a rehabilitation period of between two to three months for a complete recovery.
Over the weekend, David Moyes admitted he was in the dark over what operation his striker was having, insisting he was ‘waiting for clear information’ before commenting further, adding he has not seen social media photos posted by the West Ham player online.
When or if he returns from Italy will become a point of speculation but West Ham will now pursue FIFA for compensation under the club protection scheme to subsidise the Hammers loss in wages.
