West Ham are hoping to complete the capture Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse on Friday with possibility he could be registered by midday to be available for the Hammers first game against Bournemouth on Saturday.

West Ham and Southampton agreed a £30m transfer fee after the Hammers improved the payment structure of the deal paying the sum over two years instead of the four years initially offered.

The 28-year-old Portsmouth born midfielder will undergo his medical today with West Ham

That deal will most probably see a £15m upfront fee with another £15m in twelve months’ time.

Ward Prowse was Southampton’s highest earner at £100,000 per week and West Ham are thought to have match those wages to agree personal terms to become a Hammer.

His current deal at Southampton was due to last until June 2026 after he signed a new five-year contract in 2021.  West Ham are thought to match those terms with a new contract.

  2. Agree, this will be a positive signing, another leader. The changing room and team spirit needs this type of character. It’s not just the well known particular skills he brings.
