trabnsWest Ham supporter group Hammers United has been investigating the possibility of displaying plaques in suitable locations to honour some of West Ham’s best-loved former players.
One of the first people they spoke with was Murray Lyall, the son of John Lyall. They looked at several possibilities before deciding that John’s former school – Ilford County High School – would be an ideal location.
Hammers United made contact with the school and they were very receptive to our ideas so last week they arranged to meet with Mrs Sheldrake and Mr Armstrong. It transpired that some years ago, Trevor Brooking opened the school’s new sports hall and there is a plaque at the entrance to the gym commemorating that event.
Between them they decided that the ideal location for a plaque commemorating John Lyall would be side by side with Trevor Brooking’s and we are now in the process of finalising the design of the plaque and arranging a date for the unveiling.
Hammers United have promised to keep members updated in due course.
