Last night’s math officials have come in for criticism with David Moyes complaining so many things went against us.
An early Bowen corner was dropped by Gent’s goalkeeper and hits Aguerd on the heel, bounces up and then goes in off the Moroccan’s hand from all of a yard out.
The referee initially gives the goal, but was disallowed after a VAR review, on reply it appears the goalkeeper push it out on to Aguerd’s hand.
A number of fouls on West Ham players were not given including one notable one on Paqueta which was given the other way.
Late in injury Piatkowski is shown a red card for a foul on Rice, who is through on goal. However, Mr Sidiropoulous is called to the pitchside monitor by his VAR who decided it was not a red car offence or a penalty. Bizarrely he seem confused who he had red carded until Michail Antonio pointed the player out.
Moyes said post match “When you look at the night, you would say there were so many things that went against us. Whether they were correct, you hope they were. I thought some of these decisions were only for if it was clear and obvious that they would overturn a referee’s decision, but we have nearly had every decision overturned tonight. I didn’t think they intervene unless it was a clear and obvious mistake? We had two or three decisions that looked really difficult to take.”
