The Premier League Minutes For Teenagers Table

As winners of last year’s FA Youth Cup, and the Premier League South Under 18 Division by a whopping 17 points, Hammers fans have been understandably excited about the prospect of youth team players getting opportunities in the first team.

Clearly, that has not yet transpired and while a number of the star players are already 19, including the likes of Earthy, Kodua, Marshall and Mubama, our manager has presented them with very few opportunities this season. In fact, Mubama is the only teenager to get any Premier League minutes, featuring 5 times for an average of 15 minutes each.

While young players develop at different speeds, it has been noticeable that some other clubs have managed to bring youngsters through and into their first teams this season. Garnacho and Mainoo have both probably been the most notable, getting lots of game time at Manchester United, then there’s Ferguson at Brighton, Bobb at City, and Miley at Newcastle.

Of course, some young players get the chance due to injuries and West Ham have lost the least days through injury of any Premier League club this season. That said, it still feels like our manager could have made better use of such a talented group of young players. Perhaps, that will change next season, especially if we are fortunate enough to get a change of manager.

Anyway, below is the league table for Premiership Minutes Given To Teenagers this season, as of 5th April 2024.
